It is often observed by eating dairy foods, studying all night, and reading the Book of Ruth. This year, Baltimore City Council's Taxpayer Night begins just before Shavuot. Join us as we and our partners celebrate Shavuot and testify to the City Council to remind them that, as the Book of Ruth points out, the bounty of the harvest should be used to meet everyone’s basic needs.

JUFJ was proud to endorse Initiative 82, which eliminated the subminimum wage for waiters, bartenders, parking lot attendants, nail salon technicians, and others who rely on tips. But now, restaurant owners are trying to undermine the initiative with confusing junk fees to increase their own profits at the expense of workers’ tips. Each spring, the Labor Seder celebrates the freedom story of the Exodus by connecting it to present day struggles, delivering the tools to take action, and celebrating with food, friends, and song. This year’s Seder, "Let all who are hungry come and eat," will examine how the fight for liberation is reflected in DC street vendors' campaign to be recognized as part of our city's vibrant and diverse community.
